The WillowVibe lure helped writer Dave Mull catch four fish on a recent trip to Austin Lake in Portage.

The commonly held belief among many bass anglers is that in the cold water of spring, you need to cast with subtle, natural-looking lures and fish them slow to catch bass.

Top lures include hair jigs, with billowing tails of seductive marabou. Another favorite is a minnow-imitating jerkbait, which anglers twitch and let hang for long agonizing seconds before they twitch and let it pause again.
