The fact that most anglers quit fishing inland lakes after Labor Day is a tremendous boon to those of us who don’t.
Fall fishing is almost magical for the things you don’t experience on Southwest Michigan’s cottage-rimmed lakes. No wakeboard boats are out there to make ocean-size swells while blaring rap or heavy metal. Gone is the ever-present whine of jet skis. Cottages are mostly vacant, with few lakefront residents around. Usually the few other boats you do see are fellow anglers.
