Wildlife Wonders: 3 p.m. June 18. Meet with a naturalist to learn about the types of animals at Sarett. Cost is $5, free for members.

Kayak lessons: 1 p.m. June 22. Learn the basics of kayaking at North Lake Park. Sarett will provide kayaks, paddles and life vests. Age 14 and up. Cost is $15. Call 927-4832 to register.

Local threatened/endangered species talk and walk: 11 a.m. June 29. Join a naturalist for an informative discussion on local threatened and endangered wildlife. Walk with the naturalist afterwards to look for some of these special plants and animals. Cost is $5, free for members.

Butterfly program: 2 p.m. June 30. Join Ron Dudek and his amazing butterfly videos and clips for an in-depth look at the fantastic lives of butterflies. Then visit the butterfly house to see the real thing. Cost is $7, $3 for children; $3 for members, $2 for members’ children.

Tallgrass prairie walks: 10-11:30 a.m. June 8; 7-8:30 p.m. July 13; 2-3:30 p.m. Aug. 11. Every week brings new flowers into bloom in the tallgrass prairie, with peak occurring in late July and early August. Cost is $12, $10 for members, free for children age 10 and under.

Jolly Out There: 1-3 p.m. June 9. Fred and Laura Jolly return to Fernwood to share their stories from their 2 1/2-year adventure on the road in their recreational vehicle touring all 50 states and all 59 national parks. Cost is $15, $10 for members.

Summer night hike: 9-11 p.m. June 21. Explore Fernwood during the summer solstice. Bring a flashlight. Cost is $12, $10 for members, free for children 8 and under.

Pastel art in the garden: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 22. Cathy McCormick, president of the Northern Indiana Pastel Society, leads a pastel art workshop featuring the vibrant summer landscape in soft (dry) pastels. Kokedama: 2-3:30 p.m. June 23. Create two Kokedama, utilizing simple and easy-to-care for plants and herbs. Learn about the technique and history of this centuries-old Japanese art and create a table top garden Kokedama, or hang Kokedama in a window using string or wire. Instruction on taking cuttings to start new plants as well as care and maintenance are also provided. All materials and plants are included. Cost is $35, $28 for members.

Warren Dunes State Park

Volunteer stewardship workdays: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 8 (meet at parking lot of Floral Lane). 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 15, 22, 29 (meet at picnic area between headquarters and campground). Volunteer to remove invasive plants. Wear appropriate shoes or boots, and dress for the weather. Bring work gloves and water, and consider insect repellent and sunscreen. Free park entrance for volunteers.

Saturday class features an attorney or police officer to speak and answer questions, an NRA course, personal protection in the home, and three hours of range time with one-on-one supervision.
