St. Joseph’s Ryan Guzzo shot a 78 in the opening round of the Division 2 boys golf state finals Friday. Guzzo is playing at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers West, where he is currently tied for 15th. 

After a rough start that saw him at 5-over after the first three holes, Guzzo managed to cut things down to 1-over after 15 holes. He shot an eagle on the par-4 16th using a 9-iron from a 160 yards out. 

Guzzo concludes the 36-hole tournament today. 

Dowagiac currently stands in 15th place in the Division 3 state finals at Katke Golf Course at Ferris State University. 

The Chieftains shot a 376. Drew Davis shot an 89 while Matt Mosier, Drew Phillips and Dylan Elmore shot 92, 94 and 101, respectively. 

Big Rapids currently leads with a 308 followed by Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian’s 313. 

Lake Michigan Catholic shot 402 in the Division 4 state finals at the Meadows at Grand Valley State University. 

The Lakers are 17th. Kalamazoo Hackett leads with a 323. 

Charles LaSata leads Catholic with a 92. Wilkin Lathan shot 93 for the Lakers, and Connor Casey and Connor Shooks finished with 105 and 112, respectively.
