Niles boys basketball coach Pat Touhey

Former Niles girls basketball coach Pat Touhey has been named the school’s new varsity boys basketball coach.

Touhey coached the girls basketball program in Niles from 2009-2014, and served as an assistant girls basketball coach at Brandywine from 2014-17.

During Touhey’s previous stint in Niles, the girls basketball team won two district titles and appeared twice in the regional finals.

“Coach Touhey brings a passion to the school that is contagious. He has a joy and love for basketball that is reflected every time he walks into our gym. Beyond that, Coach Touhey teaches life skills to his players, and is focused on building relationships with his players,” said Niles Athletic Director Jeff Upton in a news release. “Coach is very passionate and very knowledgeable about basketball, and has a competitive fire that will inspire all those who play for him. We are excited to welcome him back to our Viking family.”

Pat Touhey takes over for Tyler Dendy, who resigned after one year of coaching but remains a teacher in the school district. Niles was  2-17 last season.
